LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk

LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk is a combination of LifeSpan's under desk treadmill base and manual height adjustable standing desk offering the user quiet and efficient 'working out while working' solution.

LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk is suitable for both homes and offices and it comes at an acceptable price - it is not cheap, but the user gets what the user pays.

Assembled TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk measures (L x W) 68.5 x 38 inches (~174 x 96.5 cm), with a desktop surface area (W x D) of 38 x 29 inches (~96.5 x 73.7 cm), providing an ergonomic working area for simple(r) office work.

Treadmill base is powered via high torque and relatively quiet 2.25 CHP electric motor, providing a speed range of 0.4 to 4.0 mph (~0.65 - 6.5 km/h).

Also, a maximum speed of 4.0 mph is more than enough for a treadmill desk type of unit - if one wants to do office tasks and walk, recommended maximum speed is, IMHO, 2 mph. Anything faster than that and the user will hardly be able to use mouse and keyboard.

However, if you plan on watching TV shows, movies, or similar multimedia content on your computer, feel free to increase the speed up to 4.0 mph.

lifespan tr1200 dt5 treadmill desk 3The desk is very stable and its height can be manually adjusted between 33.5 - 52.5 inches (~85.1 - 133.4 cm). All the cables connecting the desk and treadmill base are as hidden as possible - very neat solution, important for both office and home use.

Note: some users initially don't like the fact that height adjustment is manual, but after the height is adjusted, there is rarely the need to adjust it for the same user. Even if there are several users that require different desk heights, height is adjusted quickly - just be sure that each user remembers his/her own desk height.

The maximum allowed user weight is 350 pounds (~158.5 kg) and the maximum allowed weight on the desk is 220 pounds (~100 kg).

The treadmill itself weighs 114 pounds (~51.6 kg) and the desk 60 pounds (~27.2 kg).

Although the motor is rated at 2.25 CHP, its current draw depends on the user and the speed of walking - for example, when 200 pounds user walks at 2 mph, the motor draws only 2.5 Amps.

And 200 pounds user walking at 2.0 mph pace can burn easily 225 kcal per hour.

Running/walking surface is 20 inches wide and 50 inches long (~50.8 x 127 cm) - since the maximum speed is 'only' 4.0 mph, the running deck is more than large enough for fast walks.

LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 uses a 2 ply, non-stretch belt. Although the belt is of high quality, don't walk using sharp heels.

Also, the deck comes with 6 independent compression shocks, dampening any vibration and decreasing the stress on the joints.

Running/walking belt comes with markings so that the user can identify if the belt is moving or not - OK, treadmill is really quiet, but not that much :)

Step-up height for the walking deck is 4.6 inches (~11.7 cm) and for the side, rails are 5.25 inches (~13.3 cm) - it is rather easy to step on and off the treadmill.

Missing incline - good or bad? LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 doesn't come with an incline option - the running/walking deck is parallel to the ground, with no option of increasing the incline. And, this is actually GOOD. Walking uphill while working at the treadmill desk causes bad posture and increases the pressure on the lower back, hips, and up-to-the-point on the user's knees. Thus, having no incline is - good.

Due to the design, the unit is intended for use on one permanent location - it is not of foldable design. However, it does come with transport wheels for moving the unit around, if required.

LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk Console

The console is simple in design and to use. Its readouts include: distance walked, burned calories, exercise time, step count, and walking speed - everything one needs for walking and working out at the same time.

Unit also comes with Bluetooth capability, allowing the user to sync activity data to an iPhone or Android device using LifeSpan's free 'Active Trac' app for monitoring the progress over time.

LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk warranties include a lifetime warranty for frame, 3 years for motor, 2 years for parts, and 1 year for labor.

All three models are based on the same under-desk treadmill featuring: 2.25 CHP electric motor, 20x50 inches running/walking deck, 4.6/5.25 inches step-up heights, 0.4 to 4.0 mph speed range,  and 350 pounds user limit.

The main differences are:

- TR1200-DT3 is 'just' an 'under-desk' treadmill with the console. It does not come with a desk and it doesn't feature Bluetooth connectivity, at least not the last time we checked at the official LifeSpan site.

- TR1200-DT5 comes with manual height adjustment and Bluetooth connectivity.

- TR1200-DT7 comes with electric height adjustment and Bluetooth connectivity.

Long Story Short: LifeSpan TR1200-DT5 Treadmill Desk helps the user burn extra calories by enabling the user to walk while doing simple(r) office tasks. The difficulty of tasks often determine actual user speed, although, for varieties of tasks, 2 mph is recommended speed.

Also, it can be used for quiet watching TV and walking at a faster pace, up to 4 mph.

It is a strong and durable unit made to last and very popular for home and office use.
