Features of XTERRA Fitness TRX2500 Folding Treadmill
Assembly of the TRX2500 is quite easy, as its deck with motors, belt, and rollers come already assembled and attached to the metallic base frame. Users just need to attach the two upright masts, the horizontal reinforcement bar that connects the two masts and the console. This is easy and shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.
The manual provides detailed assembly instructions and all the required tools are included.
The frame of the XTERRA Fitness TRX2500 is durable and made of welded steel tubing. All steel parts of the frame have a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color is light gray which is the only color available.
The frame also contains several ABS parts such as the console dashboard, and covers of side rails and motor.
The XTERRA Fitness TRX2500 is quite large when fully assembled, around 72.3” (184 cm) in length and 35.5” (90 cm) in width. In addition, users should leave a clearance of at least 3 feet on the rear of the machine and of at least 2 feet on each side of the deck for safe and easy access and operation. In short, this unit is not exactly suitable for small spaces.
Although the size of the assembled treadmill is quite big, it has a folding design and its length is reduced to 48.3″ (123 cm), and height becomes around 61″ (155 cm). Thus it can be conveniently stored away after the exercise.
The folding system is assisted by Lift-Assist mechanism to lift the deck easily while folding and Safe Drop mechanism to lower the deck safely and slowly while unfolding so as to protect against any damage.
The TRX2500 is a quite heavy machine, weighing around 207 lbs. (94 kg). However, it can be easily relocated with the help of the transportation wheels integrated into its front base.
The console of the TRX2500 is mid-range and features a 5.5” LCD display with blue backlight and large digits which are easily readable. It shows workout metrics like program profile, time, distance, speed, incline, calories burned and heart rate. All the stats are shows at the same time, so, users don’t have to use a SCAN function to alternate them to find the one they want to check. Speed and distance can be seen in metric or imperial units.
To get the pulse reading, users have to tightly hold the side grips in which pulse rate sensors are integrated.
Preset Workout Programs
Although the unit doesn’t feature online connectivity, it offers as many as 24 preset workout programs to bring adequate diversity to users’ workout routine. The programs from P1 to P14 only control the machine’s speed, while the incline remains 0%. The remaining programs from P15 to P24 also adjust the incline.
The machine also offers 2 Custom Programs and one HRC (Heart Rate Control) program. If the user chooses a custom program, the machine offers them the chance to create their own program profile, save it, and reuse it whenever they want. When one chooses the HRC program, they can select a Heart Rate value between 60 and 220 BPM. When the program starts, the machine will auto-adjust the speed so as to keep the user on the selected BPM value.
The running deck of the TRX2500 is heavy-duty and has been designed to support users up to 300 lbs. (136 kg). The dimensions of the surface are 55” (140 cm) x 20” (51 cm) which can easily allow a comfortable stride for users up to 6’2″ (188 cm) of height. The belt is 2-ply Duraweave and offers superior adherence. The integrated rollers too are considerably large, 2.4″ (front) and 1.8″ (rear). They have a crowned shape for excellent traction and integrate durable seated ball bearings for a smooth belt motion.
The deck is equipped with the XTRASoft shock absorption system, similar to the other machines in the TRX series. This system comprises of multiple points of cushioning all through the deck for excellent impact absorption. Hence running on this deck will cause less exercise-related pain, and thus users can walk or run for longer than that on concrete or asphalt.
The TRX2500 features a motorized incline system. This means that users can adjust the incline as they walk or run on it. Also, the console has the ability to adjust the incline automatically.
The incline system contains a motor (separate from the drive motor) and a small lift located under the deck’s front side. Thus, when users adjust the incline, the motor triggers the lift which slowly elevates or lowers the front of the deck, and thereby changes the incline.
There are 10 levels of incline on the unit, which is less than the TRX4500 in which there are 15 levels of incline. The incline is incremented by 1%. In addition to adjusting the incline gradually, users can also quickly select one they desire using one of the quick selection keys on the console which is from 0 to 10 (except for the level 1 of incline).
At 0% incline the step-up height of the deck is around 8” (20 cm). But, at maximum incline level, the front of the deck is elevated by a few extra inches. Hence, it’s advisable to place and use this treadmill in a room where the ceiling height would be at least 15” (38 cm) more than users’ own height.
The TRX2500 is powered by a high-torque 2.25HP motor created to support long-distance running exercises without getting overheated or losing performance. A small flywheel is also present to reduce the vibration which causes a smoother motion of the front roller.
The unit’s motor offers a speed in the range of 0.5MPH to 10 MPH. Similar to the incline, the speed too has controls for gradual adjustment on the console as well as on the side grips. And also there are quick speed adjustment controls on the console from 1 to 10 MPH.
The gradual speed controls can change in the increments of 0.1 and 0.5 MPH. Users can press a button repeatedly to get an increment of 0.1 MPH, or they can keep the button pressed to get an increment of 0.5 MPH. This is especially useful when the user wants to find an exact speed in which they feel comfortable during the workout.
Since the TRX2500 is a motorized treadmill, it needs to be connected to an external power source. 110V plug-in is required. It has a 72” (183 cm) cable and a U.S. standard plug.
The TRX2500 has quite a few add-ons. To start with, it features a sound system that consists of two large speakers, flanking the console. The console features an audio jack input to connect users’ smartphone, tablet, or MP3 player and let them entertain themselves with their favorite music, videos, and more.
Next is a workout fan placed at the bottom of the dashboard.
Then there is a tablet holder just above the fan. It can accommodate almost any tablet.
Finally, the dashboard has two molded bottle/accessory holders, one on each side.
The most important maintenance task is lubrication of belt and deck. The deck comes pre-lubricated and doesn’t need lubrication before the first use though. But after that, it will need the same after every 180 hours of use. A bottle of lubricant is included in the package. In addition to this, it’s recommended to keep the belt clean, regularly check for loose parts and re-adjust the belt if required.
