PowerBar Performance Energy Bars

PowerBar Performance Energy Bars are food bars designed to be consumed prior to or during a sport event to provide energy burst in a tasty and convenient package.

Of course, many people consider these bars just fancy candy bars, but they are not just candy bars. Although they taste like candies.

PowerBar Performance Energy Bars come in numerous flavors: Wild Berry, Vanilla Crisp, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Raisin, Mixed Berry Blast, Milk Chocolate Brownie, Cookie Dough, Citrus Burst, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Banana, and Apple Cinnamon.

Macronutrient content of all flavors is very similar:

- 8-9g of protein - mostly from soy protein isolate.

- 45g of total carbohydrates, including 1-2g of fibers and 25-26g of sugars - main carbohydrate sources are cane invert syrup, maltodextrin, fructose, dextrose, but other carb sources are present, too.

- 3-4g of fats, with 0.5-1g of saturated fats.

All flavors contain around 230kcal with some vitamins and minerals (electrolytes) present.

It is recommended by the manufacturer to eat a single bar some 30–60 minutes before exercise. For sports events lasting over 1 hour, it is recommended to eat 1–2 bars per hour and drink water according to the individual needs and weather conditions.

Personally - first of all, these bars taste great, although there are really small differences between certain flavors. Although they are generally easy on the stomach and cause no cramps or discomfort, be sure to get used to them before your main event - during workouts. Never try a new energy supplement of any kind on 'run' day - this goes for new flavors, too.

So, if you participate in a long-lasting sport event, or you like outdoor activities in general, be sure to eat some solid protein+carbohydrate meal some 90-120 minutes (or even more) before event, some energy booster supplement some 15-30 minutes before event and then, when and if needed, consume energy or protein bar with easily digestible proteins and carbs or even some carbohydrate gel. And drink water regularly.

Taking tablets of multivitamins and minerals can help, too, especially during hot weather.

PowerBar Performance Energy Bars are not suitable for breakfasts and daily meals - they are what their name says: Energy Bars, and they are good as such.

Long story short - if you do need energy bars to enhance your performance, consider these bars. However, if you need meal replacement bars, these bars are not good in that role.
