Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder
Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder is one of the most popular plant protein blends on the market and with good reason - it is a gluten and soy-free protein supplement made from non-GMO ingredients, suitable even for vegans.
Updated: March 26, 2021.
Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder is based on organic pea protein, organic brown rice protein, chia seeds, and organic hemp protein.
It comes in several flavors: Creamy Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla Bean, Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Also, it comes in packages of several sizes: 1.02 pounds, 1.59 pounds, 2.03 pounds, and 4.06 pounds, and very convenient travel-size packets of 46g.
Smaller packages are suitable for travelers and for testing purposes, but larger packages cost less per gram of supplement.
Nutrition facts for all three flavors are very similar. Recommended single serving are two rounded scoops of powder, containing (Creamy Chocolate Fudge):
- 46g of powder,
- 4g of fats,
- 15g of total carbs, of which 6g are dietary fiber, and 5g sugar alcohol (Erythritol),
- 21g of protein,
for a total of 150 kcal per single serving.
Also, a single-serving of Creamy Chocolate Fudge contains 255mg of potassium, 290mg of sodium, and smaller amounts of iron and calcium. It contains no cholesterol.
Note on sugar alcohol: Sugar alcohols are alcohols prepared from various sugars, hence the name. Such alcohols contain multiple hydroxyl (OH-) groups and are often used as sweeteners in the food processing industry and in sport supplements. For example, Erythritol has around 81% sweetness of sucrose, but it has only around 0.2 kcal per 1g of energy (sucrose has 4 kcal/g).
Sugar alcohols are usually incompletely absorbed in the small intestines and may cause bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea when consumed in larger amounts. For example, 50g per day for adults and 25g for children could be considered as a daily limit. When sugar alcohols are blended with other foods, their laxative effects are negligible. Only very sensitive people can have issues from one single 5-10g dose of sugar alcohol, especially when blended/mixed with other foods.
Unlike some other plant-based proteins, which have gritty and sandy texture, Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder has a creamy texture and a nice, pleasant taste.
Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder can be used as an all-in-one Meal Replacement Powders (MRP), but also it can be used for increasing the protein content of other foods and meals, for example, oatmeal protein pancakes, where it can replace other protein powders.
Creamy protein powder can also be used for making excellent fruity smoothies, for example, by blending one serving of plant protein with 100-150g of mixed berries and similar fruit combinations.
Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder can be used right after workouts in Post Workout Meal (PWM) shake instead of whey protein to help with recovery and regeneration. It doesn't have whey's BV and PDCAAS and it doesn't digest as fast as whey, but it also doesn't provoke insulin like whey does and can't cause insulin crash like whey can.
When preparing the powder in the shaker, be sure to use plastic or metal mash and to shake it properly. Such shake will not contain any lumps or anything similar and the foam will settle quickly. When preparing the foods using a hand blender or similar, powder is mixed quickly and thoroughly.
This vegan protein blend is easy on the stomach and causes no bloating or any similar digestive problem unless you are really sensitive to sugar alcohols (and this is very rare).
For people who travel a lot or who are very busy and have no time to prepare meals, having a packet or two of this meal replacement powder is highly recommended - just put the powder in the shaker, add some water or even milk/juice, shake it and meal replacement drink is prepared.
Also, if You are on a diet and have cravings for sweets, have a serving of, for example, Chocolate Peanut Butter - creamy texture and chocolate/peanut flavor can help in staying focused on a diet.
Of course, real food is real food, but Meal Replacement Powders can help.
Long story short: if you need a good organic, kosher, vegan, non-GMO, protein source containing no gluten, no soy, no cholesterol, and other harmful ingredients, Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder is a highly recommended vegan protein powder.
It does cost more than similar MRPs based on whey, casein, egg albumin, beef, and other similar proteins, but what you pay is what you get. Also, egg and milk-based MRPs taste better, too, but that is highly individual. For short - this is a very good plant protein blend powder. Recommended.
