MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Proteins - Whey, Ripped, Whey Gold, Power
Muscletech Nitrotech Whey Protein is a very popular, high-quality whey protein supplement. It comes in several, very similar, versions: Whey, Ripped, Whey Gold, and Power. Although these are whey protein blends, most of the proteins come from whey protein isolate and peptides, making it an excellent choice for Post Workout Meal (PWM) shakes, providing a respectable dose of BCAAs, and Glutamine.
And each version contains specially added compounds to achieve or emphasize special effects on the trainee - for example, to help one to lose additional fat, to gain more muscle mass, to help with recovery and regeneration, etc.
Updated: October 30, 2020.
Differences between these 4 whey supplements are minimal for most of the trainees - Muscletech Nitrotech Whey is a very good whey protein and personally, one of the best buy whey proteins on the market.
If you are unsure which one to take, go for Muscletech Nitrotech Whey, but if you don't like the fact that it contains creatine monohydrate, go for the Whey Gold version.
Anyway, it is recommended to check what other versions have to offer and choose according to your personal needs and preferences. The following table compares these four whey protein supplements:

Note on BCAAs: All four supplements contain nice amounts of BCAAs, but MuscleTech NitroTech Whey and MuscleTech NitroTech Power states exact amounts of individual BCAAs.
For example, each serving of MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Gold contains 5.5g of BCAAs, and since a scoop of Whey Gold contains 'only' 33g of powder, that means that 100g of Whey Gold contains almost 17g of BCAA, while Whey and Power contain slightly less than 16g (of BCAA per 100g of powder).
MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Review and Recommendation
Muscletech Nitrotech Whey's main protein sources are: isolate protein and peptide blend (whey protein isolate, whey peptides) and whey protein concentrate. Such formulated whey supplement digests very quickly, helping the athlete to recover and regenerate faster after aerobic and anaerobic workouts.
Supplement comes in many flavors: Chocolate Mint, Cinnamon Swirl, Cookies And Cream, Decadent Brownie Cheesecake, Milk Chocolate, Mocha Cappuccino Swirl, Strawberry, Toasted S'mores, Vanilla and Vanilla Birthday Cake.
Also, it comes in various packages: 1 lb, 2 lbs, 4 lbs, 10 lbs, and 3 servings.
Since this is not the cheapest whey supplement around, 3 servings package is highly recommended for testing and if you like it, go for a larger package - larger packages are cheaper per gram of protein powder, of course.
The nutritional info of the flavors are very similar. A single serving of Milk Chocolate contains 44g of powder and 30g of protein, 4g of carbs (of which, only 1g of sugars), and 2.5g of fats (1.5g of saturated fat and 70mg of cholesterol).
So, 100g of Milk Chocolate flavor contains ~68g of protein, which could be better. However, one of the reasons why this whey is so popular is the fact that one serving also contains ~7g of BCAA, ~5g of glutamine and its precursors, and 3g of creatine monohydrate.
Since the carbs content is very low, Muscletech Nitrotech Whey can be consumed even on the Keto and low carbs diets, but if you really want to fully benefit from its fast digestion, mix it with fast carbs in your PWMs. Of course, before taking any supplement or going on a strict diet or before starting to work out regularly, check your heath at your doctors office - better safe than sorry :)
Note: due to 3g of creatine monohydrate per serving, there is no need to add more creatine into the PWM shakes. Also, this whey is NOT good for slowly drinking during a longer period of time, since creatine quickly turns into useless creatinine. So, after making your shake, drink it immediately.
Taste and Mixability - with so many flavors, it is hard to decide which one is the best. They are all at least good, and which one is great, depends on the individual consuming it. Personally, Milk Chocolate is great and even 'common' Vanilla :)
MuscleTech NitroTech Whey mixes very well in the shaker, especially when using plastic mesh in the shaker. Actually, power can be mixed in a glass with a small hand-blender, without issues - some foam is created, but it settles quickly.
Mixing with other foods - Since it is a whey protein supplement that digest rather quickly, MuscleTech whey is not suitable for meals other than PWM shakes unless slowed down with other foods.
When mixed with fruits (Vanilla flavor recommended), it can be used for breakfasts and daily snacks and when mixed with low fat or cottage cheese and milled nuts, it can be used for slow digesting meals, used even as bedtime shakes. Nonetheless, if you regularly consume bedtime shakes, making them with pure casein supplements is a better option.
As a very good protein source, this whey supplement can be used in many other meals for increasing protein content in, for example, protein pancakes.
Long Story Short - MuscleTech NitroTech Whey protein supplement digests quickly, has a nice amount of protein, BCAAs, and Glutamine (and its precursors) and it even has creatine monohydrate added to the blend. It is not cheap, but far from being expensive.
Regardless if you are a casual runner on your home treadmill or an active athlete who runs and lifts weights regularly, Muscletech Whey will help you regenerate and recover more quickly.

MuscleTech NitroTech Ripped - Review and Recommendation
MuscleTech NitroTech Ripped whey protein contains only whey peptides, whey protein isolate, and whey protein isolate 97% - there is no whey protein concentrate, found in Whey and Gold Whey. It is designed to digest even faster than MuscleTech NitroTech Whey.
Also, it contains the so-called Ripped+ Matrix, consisting of:
- L-Carnitine L-Tartrate 500 mg,
- CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) 250 mg,
- C. canephora robusta extract (bean) (Robusta Coffee) 200 mg - Standardized for 45% Chlorogenic Acids,
- Green Tea Extract (as Camellia sinensis) (leaf) 100 mg - Standardized for 15% EGCG,
- Rose Hip Extract (as Rosa canina) (fruit) 100 mg, and
- Kelp (as Laminaria digitata) (stem and leaf) 20 mg.
In theory, these compounds help in losing fat and feeling more energetic, even when on a low-calorie diet, and when combined, these compounds have an even stronger effects.
In real life, their effect is IMHO negligible, if present at all.
Note: this is my favorite MuscleTech Nitrotech whey protein supplement, and I am really very reserved regarding weight loss supplements, pills, extracts, etc in general!
However, MuscleTech Ripped whey protein supplement has very good reviews regarding taste, mixability, and in the end, its effect regarding recovery, and regeneration - after all it is based on whey peptides and whey isolates.
BCAAs content - we were unable to find the exact amount of BCAAs in this whey, but having in mind that the Power whey supplement is based also on the same ingredients (exact whey sources) it is reasonable to assume that MuscleTech NitroTech Ripped contains 16-17g of BCAAs per 100g of protein powder.
Long Story Short - MuscleTech NitroTech Ripped is a premium whey protein supplement available at a very affordable price. There are cheaper whey proteins on the market, especially those containing whey concentrate. Personally, I mix Ripped with some fast carbs and add even more BCAAs, Creatine, Glutamine, and C vitamin. But that is just me (40+ years, 220+ pounds) ...
Any whey should be taken only as the part of the well-balanced diet - and diet and trainee should be under the supervision of a doctor or a trained professional ;)

MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Gold - Review and Recommendation
MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Gold is the 'simplest' whey protein supplement of all four versions.
It is 'just' whey protein supplement, without creatine monohydrate, Ripped+ Matrix, Muscle Growth and Recovery Complex, Test Support Matrix or anything similar.
Protein sources are so-called 'Premium Protein Blend' (whey peptides, whey protein isolate, whey protein isolate 97%), and whey protein concentrate - similar to Whey version.
It comes in different flavors, including Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, Double Rich Chocolate, French Vanilla Creme, and Strawberry.
Whey Gold mixes very well in the shaker and tastes great, even when not mixed with fast carbs.
When it is mixed with fast carbs in the PWM, it is almost delicacy. To boost Whey Gold, one can add BCAAs, creatine, glutamine, C vitamin, and other ingredients - it will not taste as delicacy any more, but as PWM shake, it will be fantastic, providing the body with nutrients that will promote recovery and regeneration even more than Whey Gold on its own.
If you don't like creatine monohydrate, don't want to mess with other 'matrices' and/or complexes, go for MuscleTech NitroTech Whey Gold, even if you are just a recreational athlete.

MuscleTech NitroTech Power - Review and Recommendation
Protein sources of the MuscleTech NitroTech Power are very similar to the Ripped version: whey peptides, whey protein isolate 97%, and whey protein isolate. It doesn't contain any whey concentrate.
It comes in several flavors: Cookies and Cream, French Vanilla Swirl, Strawberry, and Triple Chocolate Supreme.
As all chocolate addicts, the author prefers the Triple Chocolate Supreme flavor, but others are good as well - it is good to cycle through the whey supplements and flavors since one never knows actual taste until it is consumed.
MuscleTech Power whey also contains:
- L-Leucine 4g,
- L-Isoleucine 1.7g,
- L-Valine 1.7g.
Muscle Growth and Recovery Complex:
- Creatine Monohydrate 3g,
- Betaine Anhydrous 1.25g,
- Tart Cherry Concentrate (as Prunus cerasus) 240 mg.
Test Support Complex:
- Boron Citrate 100 mg (supplying 5% boron),
- Fenugreek (as Trigonella foenum-graecum, from seed) 100 mg.
As the 'ordinary' whey protein, this 'Power' version is excellent whey - after all, it is based on whey peptides and isolates!
BCAA Matrix is IMHO nothing special - 15 to 17g of BCAA per 100g of protein powder is minimum for any good whey product.
'Muscle Growth and Recovery Complex' and 'Test Support Complex' contain compounds that can help boost energy levels, increase strength and stamina, and help with recovery.
But again, whey supplements are just a piece of the big picture (trainee's nutrition/diet, workout program, resting periods ...) and no matter how good whey is if the rest of nutrition is not good, the workout program is bad, and trainee doesn't rest enough, not even whey peptides with various additional compounds can't help.
If you need more power, more strength, try MuscleTech NitroTech Power - it is good whey peptides based whey protein supplement and can be bought at affordable prices. And don't expect such supplements to cost like whey concentrate based powders!

Note from the Author - I am 40+ years old (young?) and 220+ pounds heavy (light!!!) guy and at the moment of writing this article I am consuming the Ripped version. I am also an endomorph - I have slow metabolism, heavy bones, dense muscles, and even when I am not working out for weeks, I am not losing strength nor muscles.
However, I have a very slow metabolism and my diet must be spotless in order to have bf% under or around 10%. Ripped whey helps, but without proper diet, bye bye my six-pack :)
Also, I recommend cycling whey and all other supplements, so after finishing this container of Ripped, I will go for some other whey protein brand and supplement, with only one condition - it must, at least, be based on whey protein isolate!
Regardless if you are a home treadmill user or active athlete (martial arts, track, and field, football, basketball, etc.), having a good whey can make a difference, a real difference.
But never forget, that even such whey is just a piece of the puzzle ...
